NATIONAL POST DAY
“Letters are among the most significant memorials a person can leave behind him”.
Process, patience, persistence … these are words lost today. We are in a distracted world and relationships are taken for granted. In an age like ours, which is not given to letter writing, we forget what an important part it used to play in people’s lives.
National Post Day was observed in our school to let our students know the very important and interesting means of communication. As a part of National Postal Week, the students were encouraged to write letters and post the letters in the post box. The postman delivered the letters to the students in their respective classes.
Public Relation Inspector, Anna Salai Head Post Office, Chennai, Mr. Sunny gave us an opportunity to visit the Head Post Office. We were warmly welcomed by the staff at the post office. We were taken around to see how letters are collected, segregated, stamped and then stored in pigeon holes. We had a glance of various counters catering to the public. Later the students posted envelopes. It was delightful to see the excitement on the students’ faces. Curiosity led the students to ask questions to the staff who were happy to answer their queries.
The trip was full of fun and excitement. We share in the thrill and the education of this trip which is likely to get a miss in the modern high tech era of mobile and e-mail.
Although there are many modern means of communication these days, the post office is still very important. Nothing can compare to the joy we feel upon receiving a letter from a friend far away or a greeting card to wish us on our special days.
